Vesicovaginal fistula (VVF)

Vesicovaginal fistula (VVF) is an abnormal opening between the bladder and the vagina that results in continuous and unremitting urinary incontinence. The entity is one among the most distressing complications of gynecologic and obstetric procedures. This is one of the oldest diseases of women of childbearing age. It is more common in developing countries and has been
a tremendous social and surgical challenge. Every woman with an obstetric fistula suffers a
miserable life, either socially outcast or divorced unless any help comes forward.

VVF Situation in Bangladesh

The prevalence of obstetric fistulae is not exactly known although approximately 71000 women are estimated to be affected (rcog.org.uk). According to statistics by Engender Health, it was found that vesicovaginal fistula had a prevalence of 1.9 per 100 respondents in 2003. The
facilities are not that wide with the ratio of patients in Bangladesh. There is a national center and other public and private centers available within the reach but the cost of surgery is very high and is not affordable for poor patients.

NAHAR in VVF Treatment

● NAHAR established cooperation with a local organization named MAMM’S Institute of
Fistula and Women’s Health(MIFWOH) to conduct the operation, who are conducting this operation within the minimum costs
● From NAHAR’s initiative, already 100+ women got help to do this surgery

Congenital Heart Disease of Children

Congenital Heart Disease of children is one of the critical diseases that children suffer from all around the globe. Every year more than 1 million children are born with Congenital Heart Disease worldwide. Sadly, only 10% of these children receive the life-saving treatment they desperately need.

40,000 children are born with CHD every year in Bangladesh. 80% of these babies are born to families living below the poverty line. Surgery to fix the problem costs around $2,000 in Bangladesh, and very few paediatric surgeons take on such high-risk cases (Al-Jazeera).

Free Medical Camp for Disadvantaged People in Bangladesh

Situation in Bangladesh
Better health care facilities are not easy to access by the poor in many developing countries. Bangladesh is not an exception and millions of poor and unprivileged people rarely avail better health care. Visiting an MBBS doctor to diagnose the diseases and obtaining a proper prescription is also tough in the context of Bangladesh. Besides, people living in urban areas may find good doctors in hospitals but rural people even do not find any specialist in their area. On top of that, disadvantaged people can not afford a doctor with their common diseases. Many of them are unable to buy prescribed medicines as well.

NAHAR’s Medical Camp

To mitigate the problem of disadvantaged people of Bangladesh, North American Humanitarian Aid and Relief (NAHAR) have undertaken different projects including free medical camps in several rural areas.

● NAHAR arranged 5+ free medical camps in several districts of Bangladesh
● In each event, doctors, nurses and volunteers were involved to treat people
● Approximately 1200 people got benefited from those medical camps
● With prescriptions, NAHAR distributed basic medicines for the patients as well

Appeal for Donation

Costs are involved to execute such free medical camps for disadvantaged poor and many people are still waiting to visit doctors. Your donation can put them out of disease. Donate any amount for this cause.

Vision Impairment in Bangladesh

Vision Impairment

Vision impairment means that a person’s eyesight cannot be corrected to a “normal” level. Vision impairment may be caused by a loss of visual acuity, where the eye does not see objects as clearly as usual. The vision impairment problem is acute around the globe but countries in Asia and African regions have acute sufferings. About 89% of the vision impaired people live in low and middle-income countries. According to the World Health Organization (WHO), at present, at least 2.2 billion people around the world have a vision impairment, of whom at least 1 billion have a vision impairment that could have been prevented or is yet to be addressed
Situation in Bangladesh In the context of Bangladesh, around 1.5 million children in Bangladesh are suffering from low vision, which can be avoided through intervention while around 250,000 people in Bangladesh
risk losing eyesight because of diabetic retinopathy.

Experts opined, around 80% of blindness is avoidable by the intervention (The Dhaka Tribune). Though 80 out of 100 visually impaired people can get their vision back, the fact is that most of the poor people in Bangladesh have no ability to treat their eyes in the first place due to the poor financial condition NAHAR’s Project on Vision Impairment
North American Humanitarian Aid and Relief (NAHAR) would love to extend their help for those visually impaired poor people in Bangladesh by providing the cost of an eye operation.
● NAHAR provides support for vision impaired people in Bangladesh
● 500+ people received vision impairment treatments from NAHAR within last few years
● NAHAR is not only providing cost of operation rather aiming to provide total support for the patient including the transportation to bring them from home, food at the time of operation, and so on.
● Year long fundraising and donation collection for this cause is arranged by NAHAR

Appeal for Donation

Per eye operation costs $150 and this amount of money is hard to manage for a poor patient in Bangladesh. Donate $150 or any other amount generously for this cause.
